Lydia Ralphs achieves a F1RST
Lydia Ralphs is an Approved Driving Instructor who completed the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driver course as part of her continuing professional development. She achieved a F1RST and says the experience is already enhancing the way she delivers driving lessons, helping her pupils become safer and more confident drivers.
Lydia first heard about IAM RoadSmart when NSADR spoke to her local driving instructor association. After a free assessment drive with Ian, she was inspired to take the full course and develop her own skills further.
Working with National Observer Shaz Mitchell, Lydia completed four focused coaching sessions before feeling ready for her test. She praised Shaz’s knowledge of the IAM system and her clear, encouraging approach.

Oscar Mobley achieves a F1RST at 17
Oscar passed his DVLA driving test at the end of March, began his IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driver course in early April and achieved a F1RST on 18 July 2026, less than four months after gaining his full licence.
IAM RoadSmart Examiner Rob Gilligan praised an impressive drive. Oscar’s result demonstrates the value of developing awareness, decision-making and a systematic approach to vehicle control early in a driver’s journey.
Oscar was coached throughout the course by National Observer Shaz Mitchell, who supported him from his first advanced session through to the test.
