Daz’s IAM RoadSmart journey
My passion for motorcycles began in 1971, at the age of six, when I bought my first bike — a Honda SS50 — for just £10. Since then, I’ve never looked back, taking part in motocross, trials, and the occasional track day. As I moved into road riding, my focus shifted towards safety. This led me to undertake additional advanced motorcycle training, including one-to-one sessions with an ex-police trainer, IAM RoadSmart, BikeSafe, and RoSPA. I’m now a fully qualified DVSA CBT, DAS, and ERS motorcycle instructor, as well as a National Observer for NSADR. You’re never too old to learn — and continually assessing your own riding skills only makes you a better, safer rider.
